Designing Hope For Chicago

SILENCE THE VIOLENCE.

Design is powerful. It has the ability to transcend and alter our lives in many positive ways. Another powerful reality is the disturbing violence our city is experiencing.

For many of us, reading the headlines and stories in the news are as close as we’ve gotten to the crime and senseless murders taking place in Chicago on a daily basis. For many others, particularly innocent children living in these areas, it hits all too close to home.

Designing Hope For Chicago was born out of a shared belief that community and cause-based organizations can fundamentally improve the human condition. We partnered with the Design Museum of Chicago to create Designing Hope For Chicago, a poster series and fundraiser who's mission was to bring awareness to the violence in our city through inspiring art and design. Top Chicago artists and designers were asked to create an original work of art after watching the video below. The goal was to create works that addressed the violence in Chicago while also inspiring and communicating a sense of hope.

Enlisting some of the most talented design professionals and artists in Chicago, the design community stepped up to create powerful, original works of art.

The exhibition was resurrected in 2018 at Soho House Chicago, where a thoughtful discussion took place on how creatives can use their voices to affect change in our city. Special thanks to Tanner Woodford and Joey Stevenson.
